Graham High School, a teacher-run non-profit community school, has made significant investments to keep the ratio of students to teachers and students to counselors low. We do this so that you can receive the attention you require. Compare our student-teacher ratio (10.5 to 1) with other “virtual” learning methods (60 to 1, or worse).
If you cannot afford a new computer, used business PCs are an excellent alternative that may be acquired for less than $200. Choose a computer running Windows 10 or Mac OS 12 or higher. A Chromebook will also work.
The GHS learning paradigm is primarily asynchronous (not real-time), but it does provide extensive real-time assistance. What exactly does this mean? Although each course requires a particular amount of work each week, you are free to create your own daily or weekly schedule. You can also speed up during the week when something is simple for you and slow down when it is hard. Some of our courses feature weekly class meetings; however, they are only necessary for the “college prep course.” In other classes, if your schedule prevents you from attending the meeting, your teacher will provide an alternate assignment.
At GHS, we meet you where you are and take you anywhere you want to go!
Some kids enroll at Graham High School on the first day of ninth grade and graduate exactly four years later. Some students have missed a year or more of high school due to life events or outside activities and are attempting to make up the time. Some have good academic talents and perform well in school. Some people have a unique ability or favorite subject, but they find other subjects frustrating or monotonous.
Whatever your starting position, your GHS counselor will assist you in designing a graduation plan that includes the ideal balance of challenge, support, and community, as well as a post-secondary plan that is both attainable and exciting.
Ask your GHS counselor about these fascinating options to earn credit for a high school diploma:
Guided Study Project-Based Learning – With the guidance of a GHS teacher, create your own learning experiences and earn elective credit for doing what you enjoy!
Work Experience: Earn elective credit by working or helping in your community!
Post-Secondary Enrollment Options (PSEO) – We urge all students to take advantage of this unique state-funded opportunity, which allows them to take college courses for free while still in high school.
If you are on track to graduate, you can take more than two years of college before graduating from GHS.
If you graduate later than your high school classmates, you can use a second year of 12th grade for PSEO.
If you excel in one area, such as visual arts, you can take PSEO courses while completing conventional high school courses in your other disciplines.
Honors courses, certificates, and designations provide excellent opportunities for students who want to excel in one or more disciplines.
Summer classes – At GHS, you can take summer courses to expedite your graduation goal, recover credit, and/or manage your school and out-of-school obligations by spreading your course load over five quarters rather than four.
Preparation for a standard adult diploma – If you will turn 21 before receiving a GHS diploma, we can work with you online to complete nearly all of the prerequisites for an adult diploma.
Remember, each pupil is unique. You can utilize one or all of the options listed above to create your own high school pathway.
